Day 11 Wednesday 31th
Alena
Pak Jewish Graveyard On Wednesday we went to the jewish graveyard. Our group was met at
school by four young men who were introduced as members of the club that is
called the “Beth Shalom”, which means “House of Peace”. They led us through
an ordinary cemetory that also was quite interesting because the gravestones
are beautiful. They have really great sculptures and flowerbeds. Then we arrived at a small house of prayers on the jewish graveyard.
In the past the dead persons were washed, balsamed and prepared for burrying.
Our guides told us a little about the ceremony of burrying. They also told us
about jewish traditions of how they treated their deads. After this small talk we went to the graveyard. We heard the stories
about some jews in Hildesheim. That was a short but interesting excursion. Alena Pak |
